How people will remember 2024 will depend heavily on whether they kept or found a job, had secure shelter, could afford a decent life and were unafraid doom was at the door.

In other words, whether Luxembourg experienced a prolonged worsening of economic conditions – a recession.

“I couldn’t predict – not more than you – whether it’s going to be really tough or just slightly. But the consensus amongst people that are informed seems to be that we will have to prepare for some tougher times. Obviously, Luxembourg is well prepared because we have a number of elements that are safeguards” with a strong economy, said Pascal Wiscour-Conter, formerly head of job-seeker services at national jobs agency Adem and now strategic development head at the HEC Liège Luxembourg business education program.
